First year photography brief for Core Studio ended in May. The brief was far more challenging than any other we’d received at this point; we were asked to visualise a social media cliché and then expand on that cliché to develop a body of work. I chose to work with the cliché of people who instagram everything they eat but my approach was to photograph the aftermath of meals. View this series.
During the second part of the brief I worked with students to photograph what they had for lunch to delve into the idea of “we are what we eat.” I didn’t want to photograph the students’ faces because I was aware of making it too easy to make judgements about each individual. By focusing on the hands only I thought I’d get around this but I was mistaken. The hands are just as revealing as faces. View this series.
